Murray Website
The Murray City School District website is the primary communications tool for the District to post information. However, each school also has it's own website to communicate more directly with their own communities.Social Media
Murray City School District requests that all participants on our social media pages behave respectfully and civilly. These pages are utilized for celebrations, important notifications, and general information about our students, educators, and community partners. While the First Amendment to the US Constitution protects most speech, there are clear limitations when that speech is obscene, threatening, defamatory, or irrelevant to the posted information (off-topic or SPAM). Those who contribute non-protected discourse will be limited in their participation (or potentially blocked).ParentSquare
ParentSquare is MCSD's official communication tool with families of students. This web- and app-based platform communicates messages through a downloadable application, email, text, and outbound voice messaging. This tool is ONLY for official school communications (see below for Murray Matters Newsletter for non-school entity communications). Families need to create their ParentSquare account by going to parentsquare.com and using the email address they have in the District's student database called Aspire. This will validate their permission to create/use a Parentsquare account. From there, you will be notified as messages are posted from your school and the District.Murray Matters Newsletter
Murray Matters Newsletter is a weekly (weekends) publication managed by Murray Education Foundation. All advertising proceeds from that publication support MEF initiatives to "empower the next generation of Murray learners and leaders." The publication is distributed to parents and community supporters of Murray City School District and MEF, amplifying information about their organizations, district items of interest, and MEF activities. MCSD Media Access Guidelines
Murray City School District (MCSD) values positive, collaborative, and transparent relationships with media partners to ensure accurate representation of our schools, students, and initiatives. Our partnership with the media plays a vital role in informing the public, celebrating student and staff achievements, and advancing the conversation around public education in Utah.
We define "media" as organizations that maintain a consistent publication schedule, serve an established audience, and adhere to professional journalistic standards in news gathering and reporting.
To facilitate effective media engagement, we request your support with the following:
- Student Privacy & FERPA Compliance: MCSD is committed to protecting student privacy and strictly adheres to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Media representatives must obtain appropriate permissions before capturing images, video, or interviews involving students.
- Prior Coordination Required: All media requests to visit any MCSD campus must be coordinated and approved through the Public Information/Communications office, or Superintendent's office, to ensure minimal disruption to learning.
- Guest/Visitor Policy Agreement: Upon arrival, media representatives must sign in as a visitor and agree to MCSD guest/visitor policies of conduct. Further, a representative of the district office or school administration will be assigned and on hand to greet and escort media before proceeding.
- Public Right-of-Way Reporting: We request courtesy communication of any reporting and/or filming conducted on public right-of-way properties (such as sidewalks, streets, or roadways) ahead of time and regardless of the subject matter being reported, to help us minimize disruptions to students, families, and educators.
- Requests for interviews, footage, or information should include specific details regarding the nature of the story, requested interview subjects, and any desired video or photography needs. Providing this information in advance allows for timely responses.
MCSD is committed to working with the media to fairly balance reporting of the incredible work happening in our schools against consistent and firm procedures and protections that serve student and educator safety, privacy, and a productive learning environment. We appreciate our media partners' cooperation in helping us share our story and promote excellence in public education.
